Octo uses agile to transform existing approaches in an effort to reduce waste, inefficiencies, cost overruns and create a more collaborative IT development approach with stakeholders and users

RESTON, Va.--()--Octo, an award-winning provider of technology and digital services to the federal government, today announced that it has been awarded a $5.9 million contract by the Department of Justice (DOJ), Office Of Justice Programs (OJP), Office of the Chief information Officer (OCIO). Specifically, Octo is supporting the Program and Project Management Division (PPMD) to provide comprehensive agile transformation program management, development and support for the agency as it continues to leverage IT to advance its overall mission.

Within the OJP, the PPMD manages and promotes an IT development culture that reduces project costs and risks, better estimates staffing, project costs and resource needs, as well as improve project quality. Faced with managing upwards of 90 major IT projects at any given time, the agency began to see the need to adopt standardized approaches to managing these programs.

With this contract, OJP has partnered with Octo to transform and streamline their project management and technical processes towards a standardized approach that focuses more on interfacing with technical support and end users, while supporting a continuous improvement process that will facilitate project success.

“We are incredibly honored to have been selected as the team to partner with the DoJ to help the agency transform their IT development processes and methodologies,” said Thomas Lee, Senior Vice President, Octo. “The proper implementation of agile core principles and the streamlining of IT project management processes and procedures will increase the likelihood of project success and promote greater collaboration and communication between developers and stakeholders.”

For this contract, Octo provides substantial expertise in agile development methodology, experience in large-scale technical transformation, and proven best practices in the development of integrated master schedules and other key project management toolsets. In addition, Octo has proven successes in multiple large-scale federal programs, intimate knowledge of the DOJ’s OJP, and has committed, knowledgeable, and experienced personnel to support the agency’s mission.

Agile is at the core of all of Octo's customer engagements. Octo has previously implemented Agile Centers of Excellence at United States Patent and Trade Office (USPTO) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and has had numerous agile engagements at other federal agencies such as the National Institute of Health (NIH), National Geospatial Agency (NGA) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Octo is certified to use the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) for its agile development and training engagements, which is an industry recognized standard for agile methodologies, and is only one of three federal contractors with this certification.

The OJP contract continues to expand Octo’s representation within the Department of Justice. It is a one year contract with two additional option years. The total value of the contract is $5.9 million.
