imgix Expands Image Processing Tools to Google Cloud Storage™

Support Gives Google Cloud Storage Customers Access to imgix’s Advanced Image Processing Technology

SAN FRANCISCO--()--imgix, the leading provider of on-demand image processing for websites and mobile apps, today announced support for Google Cloud Storage. With this integration, Google Cloud Storage users gain access to advanced image processing capabilities with more than 100 editing parameters available, allowing them to increase the speed and responsiveness of their websites and apps while decreasing their bandwidth usage. This advanced image processing capability will also be available to users of Google’s Firebase mobile platform, greatly augmenting its ability to handle visuals.

“We don’t believe you should have to re-upload your images to make use of an image processor. That’s why imgix allows our customers to simply connect to the places their images already live, including the cloud,” said Jeremy Larkin, imgix co-founder and CTO. “There has been a lot of interest in using imgix with Google Cloud Storage, and we’re happy to provide our customers with even more flexibility to use the provider that works best for them.”

It is increasingly common for companies to store all their multimedia assets in the cloud – in fact, according to a recent survey by Clutch, 70 percent of companies use the cloud primarily for storage. As one of the top cloud service providers, Google Cloud Storage provides startups and media companies with an inexpensive and safe way to maintain and manage storage. By serving through imgix, Google Cloud Storage users can perform more than 100 processing operations on their images at the instant they are requested. This makes it possible to tailor every image to the device and context it is requested in, increasing speed, decreasing bandwidth usage and improving user experience.

Google Cloud Storage source support joins imgix's long standing support for integrating with a variety of other types of customer-selected storage options, including Amazon S3 and standard HTTP/HTTPS endpoints. imgix caches and serves images at various locations around the globe, maintaining a delivery presence at 33 edge locations in 16 countries worldwide.

Launched in 2010, Google Cloud Storage is a storage infrastructure service that allows developers to store files on Google’s servers and then access them on the internet. It has become one of the fastest growing cloud service providers, with Synergy Research ranking it as the third largest provider by market share behind Microsoft Azure and Amazon AWS. Google Cloud Storage’s growth in market share is a direct result of increased usage by technology startups and media companies who lack traditional legacy system support.
