Jim “The Rookie” Morris to Deliver Keynote Address at Continuum’s Navigate 2017

Morris will share life lessons from his unexpected career change from high school gym teacher to Major League pitcher, presented by Cisco Umbrella

BOSTON--()--Continuum®, the exclusive provider of the only vertically integrated, intelligent IT management and service delivery platform that enables MSPs to reshape how they deliver IT services, has announced that Jim “The Rookie” Morris will present a keynote address at its fourth annual Navigate 2017 user conference. The keynote, sponsored by Cisco Umbrella, will be held at 9:15 a.m. PT on day three of the conference, which is taking place October 2-5 at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.

Jim Morris will take the stage at Navigate to share the inspirational story of how he went from being a 35-year-old teacher in Texas to a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. In 1999, Jim made a bet with his high school baseball team that he would try out for the Major Leagues if they won the district championship. When they did, he kept his end of the bargain, and his 12 consecutive 98mph fastballs caught the eye of the Devil Rays scouts.

Jim’s Cinderella story, which has since been adapted into the major motion picture “The Rookie” starring Dennis Quaid, serves as a testimony to the power of dreams. His keynote will draw lessons from his own life experience, sharing the importance of chasing dreams and inspiring others to become mentors and leaders.

“I always appreciate the opportunity to share my story with people around the country, and the world,” said Jim Morris. “I want people to know that dreams don’t have to be vanquished, that the barriers we might put in place to achieving them can be overcome if the mindset is right. I turned a bet with my high school baseball team into a brief, but life-changing career as a Major League pitcher; and, if only a handful of the audience go out to pursue their own lifelong dreams, I’ll consider it a win.”

Cisco Umbrella, the cloud security platform that provides the first line of defense against threats on the internet, is the presenting sponsor of Jim Morris’ keynote. In addition to hearing Jim’s inspirational story, attendees will also have the opportunity to meet “The Rookie” himself and have him sign a free copy of his book, “The Rookie: The Incredible True Story of a Man Who Never Gave Up on His Dream.”

“Over the past four years, Navigate has become an event for our partners to not only take away best practices, but to gain inspiration,” said Michael George, CEO, Continuum. “That’s why we want to ensure our keynote speaker program includes both groundbreaking technological expertise, in the form of Kevin Mitnick’s security-focused session, and stories from beyond our industry that give us the drive and determination to lead our organizations to success. We’re grateful for Cisco Umbrella’s sponsorship of this keynote, and for Jim Morris in sharing his incredible experience with us at Navigate 2017.”
