SAN RAFAEL, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nomadic, an immersive entertainment company creating tactile virtual reality (VR) experiences for neighborhoods everywhere, today announced a triad of strategic new hires to fulfill leadership roles across content, 3rd party business development, and venue partnership roles. Revealing its innovative model of out-of-home VR experiences earlier this year, Nomadic grows its senior team to strengthen its content pipeline and drive in-market location partnerships for its modular, reconfigurable approach to location-based VR.
Letam Biira joins Nomadic as Head of Content Partnerships from YouTube, where he served as Head of Gaming Content and Partnerships, Americas. At YouTube, Letam led content acquisition and programming efforts for the company’s gaming vertical in North and Latin America, partnering with the world's premiere game publishers, to develop in-game product integrations and collaborations with the YouTube creator community. Prior to joining YouTube, Letam held a five year tenure at Activision Blizzard, leading the worldwide licensing programs for hit franchises including Call of Duty and Guitar Hero, while driving mobile and digital distribution initiatives for Activision-developed and licensed games, across partners including Marvel Entertainment and Dreamworks Animation.
Veteran gaming and virtual reality producer, designer, journalist and strategist Jim Preston joins Nomadic as Executive Producer, overseeing internal and external content development. In his more than 12 year tour at global gaming giant, Electronic Arts, Preston specialized in innovation, overseeing everything from acquiring EA's first sports titles online (Madden), to experimental radio-based trivia games (EA GameShow), to new IP on social and mobile (JetSet Secrets). Later, Jim would become a Studio Director in the company's mobile and social group. In 2016, Preston made the move from gaming to serve as Director of Strategy and Business Development for FOVE, creator of the world’s first eye-tracking VR headset. At FOVE, Jim was responsible for identifying experiences and partners that would showcase the company’s proprietary eye-tracking technology.
Expert and innovator in retail and channel segmentation, Jen Millard joins Nomadic as the Vice President of Retail Operations. Emphasizing the power of technology to improve retail operations and customer experience, Millard’s career spans traditional and emerging retail models, including brick-and-mortar, e-commerce, vending and automated retail, and pop-up environments. In her 20+ year career, she has worked with more than 100 of the world’s best-known brands including Bed, Bath & Beyond, Lowe’s, Best Buy, Estee Lauder and Target, helping retailers and brands create long-term relationships with their customers.
“Letam, Jim and Jen have each pushed the boundaries in their respective fields of content, licensing and retail innovation, and have the expertise, tenacity and curiosity to do the same for VR entertainment,” stated Doug Griffin, CEO and Co-founder of Nomadic. “With these new appointments, we’re building not only a new model of VR entertainment, but the most dynamic, most seasoned team in the VR sector.”
In addition to these leadership hires, since coming out of stealth in March 2017, Nomadic has welcomed more than a dozen passionate, pioneering new team members to the company, across functions including user experience and testing, content, technology, marketing, manufacturing, and administrative roles.
On track to debut its first in-market installation in the US in Q1 2018, recently, Nomadic announced $6 million in seed funding led by Horizons Ventures. In conjunction with the Li Ka-Shing Foundation’s celebration of gaming and technology, HKXP, Horizons Ventures brought the Nomadic experience to Hong Kong for a two-week public exhibition in July of this year.
