NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Highly-regarded intellectual property attorney Nancy J. Mertzel has launched her own New York City law firm, Mertzel Law PLLC (www.mertzel-law.com), having recently left her position as Chair of Herrick, Feinstein’s Intellectual Property Group.
Mertzel has more than 25 years of experience protecting brand names, products and content. Her practice will focus on trademark, copyright, and technology litigation matters. Having studied computer programming, Mertzel is adept at litigating cases involving source code and data, and she leverages her coding knowledge when deposing computer programmers. She will also continue to handle trademark prosecution and portfolio maintenance, copyright clearance and counseling, and copyright policy matters. The transactional side of her practice also includes drafting website terms and conditions and privacy policies and negotiating software license and development agreements.
Mertzel is excited about launching a woman-owned firm, and encourages girls and women to pursue careers involving law and technology. She has been included in Thomson Reuters’ list of top 50 New York women attorneys every year since 2013, and a New York Super Lawyer for IP litigation since 2009. Her notable accomplishments include testifying before Congress and authoring three amicus curiae briefs filed with the U.S. Supreme Court. Nancy serves on the American Intellectual Property Law Association Board of Directors. She earned her J.D. from American University, Washington College of Law and her B.A. from University of Rochester.
Mertzel Law is the third business enterprise that Nancy started. In college she provided computer consulting services to individuals and businesses, and in law school she founded a resume and desktop publishing business that she later sold. Now, Mertzel is leveraging her technical skills to ensure Mertzel Law is efficient and streamlined, using state-of-the-art, cloud-based software for her (nearly) paperless law practice. She is a working mother, and member of the National Association of Women Lawyers and the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce.
