Orbital ATK Scholarship Program Supports Undergraduate Education for 75 Children of Company Employees

More than $2 Million Scholarship Dollars Awarded to Over 1,600 Students Since Program Inception

DULLES, Va.--()--Orbital ATK, Inc. (NYSE: OA), a global leader in aerospace and defense technologies, today announced that 75 scholarships have been awarded through the 2017 Orbital ATK Scholarship Program. The awards, which total $147,500, support the children of Orbital ATK employees in their pursuit of post-high school undergraduate education. Students are selected from an academically talented pool of applicants from around the country. Parents of scholarship recipients work at 23 Orbital ATK locations in 10 states across the company’s three operating groups and the corporate office.

With this year’s awards, Orbital ATK and its legacy companies have awarded more than $2 million in college scholarships, grants and other awards to more than 1,600 students since 1992.

Congratulations to this year’s recipients and their parents,” said President and Chief Executive Officer David W. Thompson. “Our scholarships are highly competitive and Orbital ATK is proud to invest in education and support the academic ambitions of these talented students as they pursue their undergraduate goals.”

Martine Bible, a senior payroll specialist at Orbital ATK’s Rocket Center, West Virginia, campus, is grateful for the company’s support of her daughter’s educational goals.

Receiving financial support for college means a lot to my daughter,” Bible said. “This benefit surely gives her additional incentive to pursue her education as she works toward a career in the field of biology. I am proud that Orbital ATK recognizes the importance of education and gives employees the opportunity to participate in this scholarship program.”

A majority 76% of this year’s scholarships were awarded to students with STEM-related (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) majors, an amount greatly exceeding the program’s minimum of 50% scholarship awards to STEM majors. The emphasis on STEM education underscores Orbital ATK’s support for connecting future generations of innovators, scientists and technicians with resources strongly supporting STEM-focused educational dreams. As a global leader in aerospace and defense technologies, more than one-third of Orbital ATK’s employees are engineers and scientists.

Recipients were selected by Scholarship America, the nation’s largest manager of scholarship and tuition reimbursement programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Selection criteria included the student’s grade point average, and if a high school senior, rank-in-class and test scores, leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, a statement of education and career goals, unusual family or personal circumstances and an appraisal by someone unrelated to the student. Awards were granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability or national origin.
