TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--To support U.S. law firms, private equity and clients with their Canadian legal matters, McCarthy Tétrault now has an on-the-ground presence in New York City. The new office will practice exclusively Canadian law and led by newly-appointed Managing Partner, Mark Adkins, an experienced Canadian M&A and corporate lawyer who has been connecting U.S. clients to Canadian business and connecting Canadian clients to U.S. capital and growth opportunities for nearly 15 years.
The opening of the New York office builds on McCarthy Tétrault’s current U.S. market presence to address the needs of the increasing number of U.S. clients looking to do business in Canada — particularly M&A, capital markets and private equity. It also allows McCarthy Tétrault to deepen its existing relationships with U.S. law firms to better serve clients on cross-border issues.
“McCarthy Tétrault is expanding its presence in the U.S. with a New York office that will assist clients in accessing the deepest and strongest firm in Canada,” said Dave Leonard, McCarthy Tétrault Chief Executive Officer. “This is an exciting move for the firm and we are thrilled to name Mark Adkins as Managing Partner for McCarthy Tétrault’s New York office. His experience after working in New York City for so many years, connecting US and international clients to the Canadian market will be invaluable to our clients.”
Adkins’ practice is focused exclusively on the Canadian law aspects of M&A, private equity and inbound capital markets transactions. Clients rely on Mark for his practical advice and focus on solving their business challenges, notably the key differences in Canadian corporate and securities law from the U.S. regime. Mark’s experience includes acting for U.S. and international clients on Canadian public company take-over bids, plans of arrangement and amalgamations, and on private asset and share purchase transactions.
“I am thrilled to be joining McCarthy Tétrault as Managing Partner of the New York office,” said Adkins. “I’m excited to bring my 15 years of experience working in New York to McCarthy Tétrault and to work collaboratively with my new partners to help clients gain access to and execute on cross-border opportunities.”
The New York office and recent acquisition of Wortzmans, an e-Discovery and information governance services firm, are two recent examples of how McCarthy Tétrault continues to grow by bringing additional value to clients.
