Edifecs Showcases FHIR Bridge Add-On at HL7 Value-Based Care FHIR Summit

FHIR addresses some of healthcare’s biggest interoperability challenges; Edifecs’ solution ensures rapid adoption

BELLEVUE, Wash.--()--Edifecs, Inc., a global health information technology solutions company, successfully demonstrated the Edifecs FHIR Bridge Add-On as an essential component for health plans leveraging FHIR standards at the recent HL7 Value-Based Care FHIR Summit. Edifecs’ demonstration showed health plans how user-friendly the FHIR Bridge Add-On is for rapid deployment of modern data standards, such as HL7 FHIR. The summit was co-hosted by the HL7 Payer User Group, Microsoft, commercial health plans and the AHIP Innovation Lab.

As health plans move toward alternative payment methods that are value-based rather than fee-for-service, FHIR standards help to achieve interoperability and implement quality measures using clinical and financial data. Coupled with the right technology, FHIR standards are capable of resolving several of the healthcare industry’s main business problems, including care coordination, quality measures and attachments. As the consumer market becomes increasingly competitive, health plans are rapidly adopting FHIR standards, but many are behind the curve due to other priorities or budget constraints.

FHIR Bridge Add-On allows integration between FHIR and a health plan’s existing back-end system, including adjudication, membership, clinical and other types of data sources. The out-of-the box solution ensures rapid development, minimal training requirements, and, for existing Edifecs partners, reduction of the total cost of ownership of Edifecs Smart Trading platform. FHIR Bridge is the jump-start with FHIR with near zero investment for a health plan.

“We are recommending that health plans jump in and implement FHIR standards across their organizations – those that do will benefit from a substantial competitive advantage in both the consumer and health plan marketplaces,” said Sunny Singh, president and CEO of Edifecs. “Health plans that leverage FHIR technology will reduce costs and offer better terms through reduced cost of production – our FHIR Bridge Add-On is an essential component for health plans’ FHIR infrastructure.”

Health plans at the FHIR Bridge Add-On demonstration witnessed firsthand the tool’s benefits and features, including:

  • Rapid adoption of FHIR standards for organizations with basic or no prior experience, as the solution comes as an easily installable package.
  • Pre-built maps between industry standards (HIPAA, HL7, CCD) and FHIR resources.
  • Reference orchestrations for business scenarios, such as quality measures, care coordination, attachments and others.
  • FHIR Standards database with out-of-the-box guidelines for the recent HL7 FHIR standards that allow for building maps, validation and integration routines.

“We were able to demonstrate the high value of FHIR Bridge Add-On at the Summit,” said John Kelly, principal business advisor for Edifecs. “The attending health plans were able to see first-hand the real significance of adopting FHIR and the unparalleled efficiency of using modern data standards and technology.”
