WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--With higher education at a turning point, Saylor Academy will host the Saylor Higher Education Summit on June 21 and 22 in Washington, DC, an event that will bring together decision-makers and influencers impacting the post-secondary education space. Over the 2 days of the Summit, participants will share their programs, initiatives and ideas on issues such as competency-based education, emerging credential models, and on how to quickly prepare and educate the emerging workforce.
The legacy higher education “system” has left students with $1.3 trillion dollars in debt (and counting) while failing to close the skills gap employers say keeps them from filling key positions. These alarming trends are unsustainable, and both changes and challengers are afoot. Bootcamps, MOOCs, alternative credit providers and various credentialing models are gaining ground and challenging the old system. The Summit will explore how these disruptors will work with - and in some cases around - the traditional providers to educate and skill up the drivers of tomorrow’s economy, both in the US and abroad.
Keynote speakers for the event include Michael Saylor, MicroStrategy Chairman and CEO and Founder of Saylor Academy; Heather Hiles, Deputy Director of Post-Secondary Success at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; and Dr. Vijay Kumar, Associate Dean of Digital Learning at MIT.
Additional presenters and panelists will include representatives from the Coalition for a Skilled Workforce, JetBlue Airlines, Southern New Hampshire University; MissionU; HigherEd.org; University of Maryland University College; the Inter-American Development Bank; Jobs for the Future; Thomas Edison State University; Cognii; Mindappster & more.
