Americans Say Artificial Intelligence Will Increase Productivity, Free Up Spare Time and Ease Strain of Repetitive Tasks

Just in Time for Administrative Professionals Day, Conversica Survey Reveals Numerous Ways Virtual Assistants Can Make Business Lives Easier and Even Facilitate Office Romance

FOSTER CITY, Calif.--()--Conversica, the only provider of artificial intelligence-based lead engagement software for sales and marketing, today released new survey findings showing that Americans are ready and willing to embrace Artificial Intelligence (AI), especially when it comes to making their professional lives easier and freeing them up to work on high-value tasks—or even to pursue an office romance.

Coinciding with the celebration today of Administrative Professionals Day and the many contributions administrative assistants make in the workplace, Conversica released this survey to illustrate that even though most people don’t have human administrative assistants, they would welcome having a virtual assistant by their side. “In fact, even human assistants should have AI assistants to make their lives better and offload routine tasks,” said Conversica CEO Alex Terry.

Embracing the potential of AI

Conversica’s proprietary research polled 1,000 Americans about the potential benefits of AI and how people see this emerging technology integrating with their work—and personal—lives. The Conversica survey reveals that over half of respondents (52 percent) would like to have a virtual assistant and feel that with an AI assistant helping at work, they would be more productive.

Respondents’ top two reasons for wanting an AI assistant are to offload repetitive tasks and to make time-consuming tasks easier. Rounding out the top five reasons Americans want to have an AI assistant are the elimination of boring tasks and the need to work after hours and the ability to delegate work that isn’t a good use of their skills.

Survey respondents were also asked to envision a future where an AI-powered virtual assistant is helping them at work and what they would do differently. While improved productivity was the number one response, followed by spending more time with the family, nearly 2 percent said that they would be free to “have office romances.”

A summary of the survey findings is available in this infographic: https://www.conversica.com/downloads/2017/04/Converisca-AI-Virtual-Assistant-Survey-for-Admin-Professionals-Day-4-2017.pdf

“Well, I can’t comment on any increase or decrease in office romance when AI is implemented,” said Terry. “What we do see is a turning point in American perceptions around artificial intelligence and a growing understanding that AI can solve real business problems and help human workers be more productive and successful.”

The internet generation gets it

While the broad consensus among survey respondents is that AI can be helpful in their work lives, the Millennial generation (18-34 years old) is much more enthusiastic about the prospect of virtual helpers. Some 61 percent of Millennials would like help from a virtual assistant with some aspect of their job, as compared to 54 percent of Generation Y (35-44 years old), 53 percent of Generation X (45-54 years old), and 50 percent of Baby Boomers (55-64 years old). Notably, only 31 percent of Senior Americans (aged 65 and older) want help from virtual assistants.
