PrimeSource Selects Virtustream to Deploy SAP Cloud Environment

New enterprise-ready infrastructure will deliver significant cost savings and performance improvements

WASHINGTON--()--Virtustream, the enterprise-class cloud company and a Dell Technologies business, today announced that PrimeSource Building Products has selected Virtustream to support its migration to the cloud. PrimeSource Building Products is one of the largest purveyors of fasteners in the world, and one of the largest distributors of building materials in North America. Through this deal, PrimeSource will migrate its mission critical IBM® DB2® on-premises database into an SAP® HANA Enterprise Cloud environment, which Virtustream will build and run through its cloud platform.

PrimeSource selected Virtustream because of its substantial experience managing enterprise systems at scale and its consumption-based billing model, which includes the micro-VM (µVM)—Virtustream’s patented technology. By employing Virtustream’s innovative consumption model, PrimeSource can efficiently measure and allocate the exact resources needed to run and scale cloud applications. With its new SAP HANA® Enterprise Cloud environment, PrimeSource hopes to achieve cost savings and performance improvements over their previous infrastructure.

“We spoke with several companies to find not only a vendor, but also a true strategic partner to guide us through this transformative step for our business,” said Tony Caesar, CIO and VP of Information Technology at PrimeSource Building Products. “We ultimately decided to select Virtustream because of the company’s extensive experience migrating global enterprise-scale workloads into the cloud. We were also impressed with their track record of solving distinct IT and technical challenges along with their unique µVM technology. With this new infrastructure, our internal IT operations will be more efficient, enabling us to provide the best value for our customers.”

PrimeSource’s global distribution network, which includes 34 distribution centers across North America alone, is widely used across the residential and industrial new-construction and remodeling markets. Companies tapping PrimeSource’s network include lumber and building supply dealers, major retailers, roofing wholesalers, concrete, wire and agriculture supply yards, steel fabricators and drywall distributors.

“PrimeSource is ahead of the curve in terms of viewing IT as a strategic asset to help fuel their business,” said Kevin Reid, president and chief technology officer, Virtustream. “PrimeSource, like many other enterprises, is embarking on a digital transformation journey that will improve not only their internal efficiency, but also will position them to stay ahead of the competition within today’s fast paced markets.”
