Women, Seniors and Independent Professionals Reshape the Latin American Travel Landscape

SÃO PAULO--()--Global market research company Euromonitor International released today the 2017 WTM Latin America Trends Report at World Travel Market (WTM) Latin America, revealing how the regional travel industry is developing amidst socioeconomic changes.

The three most prominent trends identified by the report are:

Ageing travellers
Forecasted to represent 28 percent of the total Latin American tourists, over 50s will add 90 million people to the market by 2020. With more time on their hands and specific needs, this fast-growing group represents an opportunity to boost low season tourism and create tailored services.

‘Boss-less’ professionals
The line between leisure and business travel has never been so blurred in Latin America. Over 7.4 million Latin Americans are ‘boss-less’ professionals - either self-employed or employers who run their own businesses. As people look for more flexible work terms, they gain power to make their own choices of accommodations.

Female empowerment
Latin American women are increasingly opting to travel solo as they now have more money and opportunities. According to the Brazilian Ministry of Tourism, one out of eight women in Brazil show the intention to travel alone in the first half of 2017. Leisure destinations are welcoming this group and providing packages to cater to their specific demands.

Marília Borges, travel research analyst at Euromonitor International, comments, “Latin Americans are increasingly gaining power to make their own informed decisions when it comes to travel and are re-evaluating their preferences. Overall, the common denominator among travellers is a search for experiences over material things.”
