RALEIGH, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--(Click to Tweet) – The Internet of Things (IoT) holds incredible promise for municipalities and utilities. These organizations now look to smart applications and services to make cities, communities and campuses more connected, livable, economically competitive and sustainable. The collaboration with PTC will enable Sensus, a Xylem brand, to help make that promise a reality.
As part of this collaboration, Sensus will leverage PTC’s ThingWorx® IoT platform to create new applications or extend existing ones for users of the Sensus FlexNet® communication network. Specifically, Sensus will deliver IoT-based applications for smart cities, smart utilities and smart campuses.
“Municipalities and utilities are leveraging the IoT to create real improvements in the lives of the people they serve,” said Kevin O’Brien, vice president of IoT partner sales, PTC. “This collaboration will enable Sensus to provide its customers with access to solutions developed using the ThingWorx platform and to help its customers better connect their communities and provide real value for consumers.”
The integration of ThingWorx with the FlexNet system will enable Sensus to quickly extend existing applications—including Sensus Smart Water, Electric, Gas and Lighting applications—with new IoT capabilities or build new IoT-based applications without the need for software coding. Additionally, using Sensus Analytics, customers can collect, store and process a vast amount of actionable data from multiple sources and leverage this data to automate IoT capabilities in their applications. For example, customers could use outdoor light sensor data to create mobile notifications and alerts and improve public safety on smart campuses.
“We chose to partner with PTC because of its industry leadership in IoT innovation and its vast partner ecosystem,” said Randolph Wheatley, Sensus vice president, marketing. “The integration of the ThingWorx platform with our FlexNet system will help us create a diverse range of IoT applications for our customers to help turn their vision for a connected community into reality.”
The Sensus FlexNet communications system uses dedicated, licensed spectrum across a private, secure network that supports multiple applications and provides future growth flexibility. A trusted and proven communications technology, FlexNet is focused on the specific market areas of smart utilities, smart cities, and smart campuses.
