SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Scality, world leader in object and cloud storage, announced that it has been recognized by Gartner, Inc. as a Leader in the 2016 Magic Quadrant for Distributed File Systems and Object Storage1 research report. Scality was one of 13 companies evaluated in the Gartner report, in which each vendor was measured across comprehensive specifications including its ability to execute and completion of vision. This is the first such “Magic Quadrant” report that evaluates vendors in the file systems and object storage market.
Now in its sixth-generation release, Scality RING is a scale-out, peer-to-peer, distributed storage software that can be deployed on any x86 server. It provides the rigorous data durability, performance and 100 percent availability that businesses need for their critical data. HPE and Dell are formal resellers of the Scality RING technology with dedicated SKUs and the product is available through the Cisco Preferred Solution Provider program.
Scale-out storage systems are growing fast and becoming a popular platform to tackle the unabated growth of unstructured data. With data growth exceeding 40% year over year in many enterprises, infrastructure and operations (I&O) leaders are looking for extensible storage products that can address an increasing number of use cases with lower acquisition and operational costs.
Enterprises are demanding features and capabilities prevalent in big data cloud infrastructures, such as self-healing and ease of management. Software-defined storage (SDS), deployed on commodity hardware, is emerging as a threat to external controller-based (ECB) storage arrays in environments with a steep growth of unstructured data. New and established storage vendors are continuing to develop scalable storage clustered file systems and object storage products to address cost and scalability limitations in traditional, scale-up storage environments.
“The RING gives us enormous scale and reduces the risk associated with storage growth,” said Bart Provoost, Manager, Network Applications and Services at Telenet. “As our business has transformed and our user base has grown, our need for storage capacity has increased exponentially. However, scaling up hasn’t required any maintenance windows or any downtime.”
Gartner notes, “Vendors in the Leaders quadrant have the highest scores for their Ability to Execute and Completeness of Vision. A vendor in the Leaders quadrant has the market share, credibility, and marketing and sales capabilities needed to drive the acceptance of new technologies. Market Leaders will typically be able to execute strongly across multiple geographies with products that cover both distributed file systems and object storage offerings. They will also have consistent financial performance, broad platform support and flexible deployments models.”
“We believe Scality’s recognition in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for File Systems and Object Storage is due to the strength of our Scality RING platform and the value it provides to our customers,” said Jerome Lecat, CEO, Scality. “Businesses and consumers are expecting an always-on service, putting more pressure for an always-on infrastructure. Our customers are able to process tens of thousands of operations per second and have 100 percent availability with absolutely no data loss thanks to our services and solutions.”
With the growth of digital data, Scality is leading the market in innovation, growth and a proven product.
