Press Ganey Research Identifies Board-Level Performance Measures

Research and Data Reveal Key Quality Metrics to Help Advance Overall Performance

BOSTON--()--In a white paper released today, Press Ganey Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:PGND) identifies the top ten metrics to help health care executives and their boards focus strategies on advancing the safety, quality and experience of care. The paper, A Proposed Quality Report Card for Boards, authored by Patrick T. Ryan, CEO and Thomas H. Lee, CMO Press Ganey, recommends a narrowed list of ten critical quality metrics that when considered together, provide a holistic report of how well an organization is performing in measures reflective of their ability to meet patient and caregiver needs.

“In our dynamic and competitive health care environment, Boards and their management teams must work urgently to advance care delivery while also achieving financial results,” said Ryan. “A board that focuses on the quality performance measures that impact the safety, quality and experience of care will have a better understanding of how their organization is competing on value as well as fulfilling their mission to reduce suffering.”

Measures included in the Quality Board Report Card were derived from primary research capturing the insights of CEO’s and senior leaders from across the continuum, and combined with Press Ganey data. More than 26 measures across safety, communication, teamwork, loyalty, engagement, VBP and outcomes were narrowed to a list of ten key metrics that help leaders manage and advance performance in: safety, safety culture, clinical outcomes, patient experience and high reliability.

“Balancing the needs of the people who rely on the health system with the demands of a changing health care industry is an ever-present challenge,” said Susan Turney, CEO, Marshfield Clinic Health System “We need to be able to move fast and we need to be innovative in thinking about different ways to deliver care and optimize resources. Working with the board to understand the critical measures for driving improvement is imperative to execute on those goals and on delivering on the patient promise of proving safe, quality and compassionate care.”

Data indicate that the relationships between safety, quality, employee engagement and the experience of care are interrelated and also impact clinical outcomes and financial performance. The proposed Quality Board Report Card encapsulates the key measures that can help optimize all of these areas.
