FIU - OAS Executive Cybersecurity Certificate Launches October 11-12 in Miami

MIAMI--()--With international cyber threats at an all-time high, the demand for skilled workers in cybersecurity has skyrocketed. The National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education predicts more than 1.5 million new cybersecurity professionals will be needed to accommodate an expected shortfall by 2020.

To meet the growing demand for skilled cybersecurity professionals in the U.S., Latin America and the Caribbean, Florida International University (FIU) has created an Executive Certificate in Cybersecurity Leadership and Strategy, in partnership with the Organization of American States (OAS). The two-day course, scheduled for October 11-12 in Miami, offers both public and private sector tracks targeting professionals in law, government, healthcare and other industries, as well as leaders and policymakers in national security.

In addition to interactive discussions about strategies, best practices and legal issues, this executive course will provide hands-on simulation exercises of potential threats, close interaction with faculty, group projects and keynote speakers from technology leaders in private industry and government. The course will be offered in English and simultaneously translated into Spanish.

The Cybersecurity Certificate is offered jointly by FIU’s College of Business and Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs, with content contribution and endorsement of the OAS Cyber Security Program, which for the past 10 years has been building cybersecurity capacities throughout the region. This collaboration takes these efforts to a new level. Participants will access current information on regional trends, as well as measures that can be deployed at the national level to protect against the increasing occurrence of cyber incidents.

“The digital age has arrived, and leaders and decision makers need to be prepared to face the challenges that it brings while capitalizing on the many opportunities it presents,” said Paulina Duarte, Acting Secretary for Multidimensional Security of the OAS. “We are very enthusiastic about this opportunity to partner with FIU, and we look forward to an excellent cohort of students and a successful delivery of this first Executive Certificate in Cybersecurity.”

In addition to OAS cybersecurity facilitators, top experts from Verizon, Microsoft and United Data Technologies will present at the program.
