PG&E Named One of America’s Most Admired Companies for Supplier Diversity by MBN USA Magazine

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has been named to Minority Business News USA Magazine’s 2016 Corporate 101: Most Admired Companies in Supplier Diversity. The publication’s list recognizes companies that help drive minority business development through their commitment to supply chain diversity.

“For the past 35 years, we’ve been committed to supporting a diverse supply chain. Our efforts have enabled us to develop one of the leading supply chain responsibility programs in the energy industry by investing more than $2.5 billion in our diverse communities. Our program has helped create economic opportunity in our local communities as we work together to build a better California,” said PG&E Senior Vice President of Safety and Shared Services Des Bell.

PG&E scored high in various categories to receive the honor:

  • Reported Spend With Diverse Suppliers
PG&E spent a record $2.5 billion with diverse suppliers in 2015—the fourth consecutive year of $2 billion-plus of diverse spend and was more than 40 percent of the utility’s total spend for the third year in a row.

In addition, PG&E achieved new spending records in all reporting categories—including Minority Business Enterprise, Women Business Enterprise and Service Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise.
  • Innovative Supplier Development Initiatives
As a part of its Technical Assistance Program, PG&E offers workshops which raise awareness in the small and diverse business community on various important business considerations such as cybersecurity, safety, environmental responsibility and being competitive in the global marketplace.

Over the last two years, the company has also played host to small and diverse business workshops to educate women, minority (African American, Asian American, Hispanic American and Native American), disabled veteran and LGBT enterprises on how to do business with PG&E and other companies.

PG&E was also the first utility and one of the initial 26 companies to participate in President Barack Obama’s SupplierPay initiative, a program designed to help small business suppliers grow by taking active steps to expedite payments for goods and services and promote better access to financing.

In addition, PG&E’s supplier diversity program has received honors from organizations such as:

  • DiversityInc: One of the top utilities in the U.S. for diversity for eight straight years.
  • DiversityBusiness.com: One of America’s top organizations for multicultural business opportunities.
  • U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC): Named to the organization’s “Million Dollar Club” for each of the last two years for spending more than $470 million with Hispanic-owned businesses.

PG&E has been previously recognized by Minority Business News USA Magazine. Last December, the publication named PG&E Chairman, CEO and President Tony Earley to its 2015 “Best of the Decade” list and PG&E Director of Supply Chain Responsibility Joan Kerr to its Circle of Honor.
