TAMPA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Link-Systems International, Inc. (LSI), an educational technology company with student-centric eLearning solutions that pioneered the concept of on-demand, online tutoring in 1996, announced today that its flagship service, NetTutor has now conducted more than 3 million one-to-one tutoring sessions.
The online service, available 24 hours a day, every day of the year, is used by students at hundreds of community colleges, public and private colleges and leading online universities. NetTutor covers dozens of subject areas including accounting, economics, the sciences (anatomy through zoology), social sciences, general humanities, nursing and IT/computer sciences, ranging from introductory to graduate-level classes. Most tutors hold graduate degrees, and all are based and managed from LSI’s Tampa headquarters.
“Reaching three million tutoring sessions means we’ve been able to help a substantial population of students, across a range of higher-ed schools, improve their understanding of the course material, and our customers report that NetTutor generates improved grades and stronger retention – a win for both the students and the colleges,” said Vincent Forese, President, Link-Systems International. “NetTutor continues to be the innovation leader in terms of features and benefits for our customers and their students, and we continue to invest in R&D and innovation so that NetTutor continues to provide students the support they need, whenever they need it, for any subject, and on any device.”
The three million tutoring sessions were all conducted from LSI’s Tampa offices, making Tampa the world leader in online tutoring sessions.
The most popular subjects for tutoring include mathematics, English, Spanish, chemistry, physics, accounting, humanities, and computer science. Across every subject, writing is one of the more difficult challenges students face. NetTutor addresses this need with a dedicated Paper Center: trained professionals work with students to improve their critical thinking and writing skills. Papers are reviewed, annotated, and returned in less than 48 hours and students can discuss their paper with a live tutor.
Live one-to-one NetTutor sessions also enable students to replay video playback of their sessions and download those sessions for later use. Students can drag-and-drop pictures and PDFs directly onto an online whiteboard to share with their tutor. If students don’t have time for a live session, they can submit questions to the NetTutor Q&A Center and retrieve responses later. The NetTutor Paper Center provides writing support to students through asynchronous paper review.
Centralized tutors align sessions to course pedagogy and institution methodology so that students work with tutors who know the books, the material, and the courses – which is a significant benefit for the students. Colleges report that students who use NetTutor are more likely to continue their education two or three semesters later – which is important from an enrollment perspective.
For colleges, NetTutor supplements on-campus services, and offers customizable surveys to gauge student satisfaction. LSI’s standard pricing model is straightforward: charging only for the time a tutor actually spends helping students. “With NetTutor, there’s no minimum usage requirements, no archiving charges, no set-up or integration fee, no support fee – and unused minutes rollover to the next term without penalty,” Forese said.
