WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--CAPG, the leading U.S. professional association for physician groups practicing capitated, coordinated care, calls on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to stick with its implementation timeline for the Medicare reform law known as MACRA (the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act).
In comments submitted to the agency June 27, CAPG commits to working with the Administration and Congress to ensure a successful transition, anticipating results in better, patient-centered care.
In April 2015, MACRA eliminated the flawed sustainable growth rate formula, which repeatedly resulted in proposed cuts to Medicare physician payments. In its place, the law creates a nationwide pay-for-performance program and new incentives for risk-based coordinated care.
“MACRA presents an exciting opportunity to transform care delivery in Medicare,” says CAPG President and CEO, Donald Crane. “We call on CMS to stay the course and finalize the timeframes as proposed.”
In its comments CAPG also emphasizes the importance of bringing the same incentives for risk-based coordinated care to Medicare Advantage. “Physicians should be able to qualify for APM incentives based on their participation in Medicare Advantage alternative payment models for 2019 to 2024,” the letter says.
