Amid Leadership Change, Affinity Health Plan Continues to Advance Primary Care Mission

NEW YORK--()--The Board of Directors of Bronx-based Affinity Health Plan announced today that Glenn A. MacFarlane has resigned as President and Chief Executive Officer, effective later this month. James A. Hooley, currently Chairman of Affinity's Board, will assume responsibilities as Interim President and CEO until a permanent successor is named. Paloma Izquierdo-Hernandez, currently Vice Chair of the Affinity Board, will assume the post of Acting Board Chair.

Mr. Hooley has extensive experience in managed care and the delivery of community-based health services. With a decade of experience on the Affinity Board of Directors, he is well positioned to lead the 30-year old health plan, which serves approximately 300,000 members through one the largest provider networks in the Greater New York Region. Currently a healthcare consultant, Mr. Hooley most recently served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island (NHPRI) from 2011 until his retirement in 2014. Prior to that, he was President and Chief Executive Director of Neighborhood Health Plan of Massachusetts from 1995 to 2005.

Ms. Izquierdo-Hernandez, who is President and CEO of Urban Health Plan, a nationally acclaimed federally qualified health center also based in the Bronx, said of these developments, “Under Glenn's leadership, Affinity has greatly advanced its primary care focused mission by forging deeper relationships with the primary care community across its 10-county service area.” She added, “Through his significant accomplishments and singular focus on promoting Affinity’s mission, Glenn has unmistakably positioned Affinity for continued success – and this is critical, especially given the depth and speed of transformative change that typifies the health care industry these days. Looking ahead, we are fortunate to be able to draw from Jim Hooley’s extensive experience leading community health plans, and I know that he is personally excited to be able to work directly with the talented and committed leadership team in place at the plan.”
