SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In May 2016, Ayla Networks Co-founder, CTO and Vice President of Engineering Adrian Caceres will speak at two industry conferences—CONNECTIONS in San Francisco on May 24 and ICSSEA in Paris on May 27— about security and testing in the Internet of Things (IoT) market. In talks about privacy and security issues in smart home devices and the importance of IoT quality assurance testing, Caceres calls upon his extensive background in working with connected devices at Ayla and at Amazon’s Lab126 as the technical lead for the Kindle wireless software team.
“As the IoT gains in popularity and maturity, manufacturers will face greater challenges to ensure the security, data privacy and overall quality of their connected products,” said Caceres. “It’s good to see more industry conferences focusing on these issues, and I look forward to contributing to the ongoing discussions.”
Ayla executives Josh Pederson and Mark Wright will speak at the IoT DevCon show in Santa Clara, May 25-26. In addition, Ayla is sponsoring a series of Hands-on Labs during the IoT DevCon show to teach product designers how to create a connected device.
Here are the details on where to find Ayla executives at the shows in May:
CONNECTIONS: The Premier Digital Home Conference by Parks Associates
Panel
Title: “IoT
and Smart Home Devices: Privacy and Security”
When:
Tuesday, May 24, 4:45 p.m.
Where: Grand Peninsula ABC room,
Hyatt San Francisco Airport
Who: Adrian Caceres, Co-Founder,
CTO and Vice President of Engineering, Ayla Networks
Other Panel
Members: Moderator is Brad Russell, Research Analyst, Parks
Associates; other panel members are Jim Hunter, Chief Scientist and
Technology Evangelist, Greenwave Systems, and Bruce Snell, Cybersecurity
and Privacy Director, Intel Security
What: Nearly 50% of
U.S. broadband households have concerns about their privacy related to
the use of connected devices. If not addressed, these concerns, often
stoked by high-profile hacking incidents, could derail growth in the
smart home and IoT. This session addresses the importance of tackling
privacy concerns as the smart home enters the next stage of development.
Panelists examine the biggest vulnerabilities, steps to implement
protective solutions, and strategies to communicate these security
measures to the consumer, including the role of the media.

ICSSEA 2016 (International Conference on Software & Systems
Engineering and their Applications)
Title: “The
Importance of Quality Assurance Testing for the Internet of Things”:
SESSION 11 - INTERNET OF THINGS-2
When: Friday, May 27, from
9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
Where: TELECOM ParisTech, 46, Rue Barrault
75013, Paris, France
Who: Adrian Caceres, Co-Founder, CTO
and Vice President of Engineering, Ayla Networks
What: While
connected products can offer tremendous benefits to both end users and
manufacturers, adding connectivity to devices is no easy task. Many
manufacturers are not prepared to address all of the complexities
involved with adding connectivity to their products. Contemporary and
agile IoT platforms are complex, scalable and high-performance systems
that require a sophisticated QA process. It is essential to implement
robust regression testing that covers not only the device but also the
interaction with the cloud and mobile apps, to ensure the product is
functioning as intended.

IoT DevCon
Title: “New
and Better Products from IoT Analytics”
When: Thursday,
May 26, 2:30 p.m.
Where: Hyatt Regency Hotel, 5101 Great
America Parkway, Santa Clara, Calif.
Who: Josh Pederson,
Senior Product Manager, Ayla Networks
What: Know what IoT
analytics can do for you so you can set expectations and get the most
from your analytics solution. As you develop a connected product, IoT
analytics lets you understand fast what's not working, so you can fix
it. In the next phase, when your connected product enters field trials,
IoT analytics tells you how your connected product is interacting with
the cloud, with mobile apps and with other IoT products. In the final
phase, when your connected product hits the market, IoT analytics tells
you how customers actually use your product. In addition to adding more
sophisticated insights with each phase of your IoT product lifecycle,
IoT analytics also creates an important feedback loop. Use it to create
new and better products.

Panel Title: “Pulling
IoT Solutions Development Out of DIY Thinking”
When:
Thursday, May 26, 4:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Where: Hyatt Regency
Hotel, 5101 Great America Parkway, Santa Clara, Calif.
Who:
Mark Wright, Director of Partnerships and Evangelism, Ayla Networks;
panel moderator is Paul Teich, Tirias Research; other panelist is Tom
Hunt, CEO, WindSpring Inc.
What: Customization is different
than building everything from scratch for each new DIY project. You are
a market domain expert. How do you approach IoT product development
without burying yourself in technology and certification choices that
are not your domain expertise? When was the last time you assembled a
mission-critical PC yourself? The last time your company wrote its own
CRM system? This panel will discuss the pros and cons of IoTifying
everyday appliances vertically from scratch vs. leveraging horizontal
development partners.
