March Madness in the Breast Cancer Arena: Susan G. Komen® and Milburn Foundation Raise Eight Times Their Goal in Matching Fund Campaign

More than $409,000 Raised for Komen Mission to End Breast Cancer

DALLAS--()--Leading breast cancer organization Susan G. Komen and long standing nonprofit partner The Milburn Foundation raised more than eight times the matching gift goal in a first-ever matching gifts campaign by the two organizations.

In the first 16 days of the March campaign, donors quickly surpassed the matching grant goal set by The Milburn Foundation, and went on to raise a total of $409,749.

“This was a tremendous response from our community and we are very grateful for the generosity of our donors and our friends at The Milburn Foundation,” said Komen president and CEO Dr. Judy Salerno. “This campaign will help us fund important programs and innovative research that will one day lead to cures for breast cancer.”

The Milburn Foundation was founded in 2007 by Walter Milburn to honor his daughter, Kathy Milburn-Williams. Kathy was diagnosed with Triple Negative Inflammatory Breast Cancer (TNIBC) and is now a more than nine-year survivor. Today the foundation is run by Walter's grandson, Bryon Davis.

"We are proud to partner with Susan G. Komen, an international leader in the fight against breast cancer," said Milburn Foundation President Bryon Davis. "The matching gift campaign grew out of our positive relationship, common goals and a shared desire to further Komen's mission. We look forward to working together in other creative ways to help end breast cancer."
