TaskRabbit’s New Female African American CEO Presents the Congressional Black Caucus’ First CBC TECH 2020 African American Diversity Inclusion Plan

As one of very few female black CEOs in Silicon Valley, Stacy Brown-Philpot leads TaskRabbit’s commitment to increasing diversity in tech

SAN FRANCISCO--()--TaskRabbit, the sharing economy platform that offers on-demand help for everyday chores, today announced their commitment and plan to increase diversity at TaskRabbit and within the tech industry. As the first company to present its African American Diversity Inclusion Plan in conjunction with the Congressional Black Caucus’ CBC TECH 2020 initiative, TaskRabbit is formalizing efforts to make diversity and inclusion of underrepresented individuals a priority.

In May 2015, the Congressional Black Caucus launched CBC TECH 2020 to bring together the best minds in the tech, non-profit, education and public sectors to chart a path forward to increase African American inclusion at all levels of the technology industry. By adopting a CBC TECH African American Inclusion Plan, TaskRabbit is able to contribute to diversity in tech.

“Building a strong, diverse and inclusive community is key to any sector’s growth, and teaming up with CBC TECH 2020 is a natural step for TaskRabbit to re-confirm our commitment to being an open, forward-thinking and innovative organization in Silicon Valley,” said Stacy Brown-Philpot, CEO at TaskRabbit. “We’re proud of our efforts around diversity where our approach has always been to partner and build relationships with groups that can help us connect with underrepresented candidates, mentor those candidates once they join the team, and support our employees to maintain an active presence in the community. This plan recognizes TaskRabbit’s diversity as a huge asset aiming to break down barriers while shining a light on ways to expand the great talent of black individuals.”

TaskRabbit has always provided equal opportunities to earn a living and connect with one’s community a priority. The company’s current employee diversity stats include:

  • 11 percent African American
  • 5 percent Latino
  • 11 percent Asian
  • 11 percent LGBTQ
  • 58 percent female

TaskRabbit’s African American Diversity Inclusion Plan consists of four primary initiatives focused on generating change and increasing the number of blacks in the technology industry:

  1. Increase representation of African American talent in the company from 11 percent to 13 percent by the end of 2016 in order to reflect the population in the United States.
  2. Retain African American employees by developing a supportive, diversity-friendly culture.
  3. Increase awareness and educate employees on the importance of diversity and understanding unconscious bias to support the recruitment and retention of African Americans.
  4. Strengthen awareness around the importance of increasing diversity within the technology industry by sharing the initiatives and results of their efforts with the public.

Stacy Brown-Philpot recently stepped into the CEO role at TaskRabbit after having served as the company’s COO for three years. Since joining, she made it her personal mission to increase diversity at TaskRabbit and has grown ethnic diversity by 3x and more than doubled the number of females. Before taking the operational helm at TaskRabbit, Stacy served as Entrepreneur-In-Residence at Google Ventures, and spent nearly a decade leading global operations for Google’s flagship products, including Search, Chrome, and Google+, and served as Head of Online Sales and Operations for Google India. While at Google, she also founded the Black Googler Network, a seminal component of diversification initiatives at Google and the larger technology industry. As CEO of TaskRabbit, she will continue to drive change and inclusion not only in tech, but across industries and throughout TaskRabbit’s marketplace.
