WGL Energy Completes Solar Facility in Delano, California

WASHINGTON--()--WGL Energy Systems (WGL Energy), a WGL company (NYSE: WGL), today joined with BayWa r.e. and city officials from Delano, California to celebrate the opening of a 1.12-megawatt direct current (MW DC) photovoltaic solar farm at a ribbon cutting ceremony held near the project site in the city of Delano. The fully installed solar array is designed to power Delano’s Waste Water Treatment Plant.

The solar array is expected to produce more than 2,370 megawatt hours (MWh) per year of electricity, enough to power more than 140 homes and avoid greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to taking approximately 340 cars off the road each year.

WGL Energy, which currently has more than 170 MW DC of distributed solar power capacity under contract in markets across the U.S., owns and operates the facility under a 24-year power purchase agreement (PPA). WGL Energy operates 15 solar arrays throughout California, with a combined capacity of over 20 MW DC.

The solar array consists of 3,640 solar panels installed across seven acres of property owned by the city of Delano. BayWa r.e. developed the project, providing engineering, procurement and construction services. The project began in December, 2015 and was completed in March, 2016.

“WGL Energy is committed to offering renewable energy answers, and we are proud to provide a cost-effective energy source to Delano city,” said Sanjiv Mahan, president, WGL Energy.

“BayWa r.e. is pleased to have developed, designed and built a best-in-class solar facility, and to have closely collaborated on a successful project with WGL Energy and city officials,” said Jam Attari, CEO, BayWa r.e. Solar Projects LLC.

“The city of Delano is honored to continue its track record of high quality services for our residents, businesses and government agencies,” said Maribel Reyna, City Manager, City of Delano.
