Doctor On Demand Earns Accreditation from Three Groups for Data Security and Quality of Care

Next Generation Telemedicine Service Recognized by HITRUST, National Committee for Quality Assurance, and American Telemedicine Association

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Doctor On Demand, the leading video telemedicine provider, announced today that it has earned accreditation from three national standard-setting organizations for meeting telehealth and credentialing standards and for the rigor of its data security. The recognition, from HITRUST, the National Committee for Quality Assurance, and the American Telemedicine Association, demonstrates Doctor On Demand’s strong commitment to security and quality health care through its network of board-certified doctors and mental health professionals. Doctor On Demand has an unsurpassed customer satisfaction rating, and recently announced the addition of psychiatry services and the signing of its 400th employer customer — bringing the total number of people covered by the service by their employer or health plan to more than 45 million.

“As Doctor On Demand continues to grow, it remains our goal to bring high tech, high touch, and high quality care to millions of Americans,” said Dr. Ian Tong, Chief Medical Officer at Doctor On Demand. “Accreditation from these organizations is validation that we are delivering on that goal, and further validates our mission of helping people get the care they need when they need it.”

HITRUST, an organization promoting information security in all health IT systems and exchanges, awarded Doctor On Demand HITRUST CSF certified status. “The HITRUST CSF has become the information protection framework for the health care industry, and the CSF Assurance program is bringing a new level of effectiveness and efficiency to third-party assurance,” said Daniel Nutkis, Chief Executive Officer of HITRUST. “The CSF Certification is now the benchmark that organizations required to safeguard PHI are measured against with regards to information protection.”

The certification framework, which was developed with the input of health care, business, technology, and information security leaders, is available to all companies and organizations that create, access, store, or exchange health and financial information. By including federal and state regulations, standards and frameworks, and incorporating a risk-based approach, the HITRUST CSF helps organizations address these challenges through a comprehensive and flexible framework of prescriptive and scalable security controls.

Additionally, Doctor On Demand is now recognized by ATA’s Accreditation Program for Online Patient Consultations, which recognizes telemedicine programs that meet high standards for the security of patient information, transparency in pricing and operations, medical qualifications and licensing of providers, and the quality of their clinical practices and guidelines.

“We are proud to announce the accreditation of Doctor on Demand and welcome the company into our program,” said Jonathan Linkous, CEO of American Telemedicine Association. “Fostering cost-effective, quality and expanded health care options is fundamental for seeing telehealth continue to grow rapidly.”

The nonprofit National Committee for Quality Assurance only gives accreditation to organizations after they meet over 60 standards and report on performance in more than 40 areas relating to provider credentialing. These standards include improved care, enhanced service, and reduced costs for consumers. For consumers and employers, the NCQA seal is an indicator that an organization is well-managed and delivers high quality care and service.
