HALIFAX, Nova Scotia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Baylor Football and Athletigen Technologies Inc., a leading sports genetic company, today announced a partnership to create a unified performance platform, where each athlete will have a training program developed based on their genetic information, to help improve health, performance and safety.
“Partnering with a world class athlete performance program like Baylor Football allows us to make significant advances in our understanding of how genetics can be used to optimize player performance at the elite level,” says Athletigen CEO Dr. Jeremy Koenig. “By combining genetic information with Baylor's best-in-class approach to athlete performance training, we offer their players a unique form of insight that can be used for more precise athlete training - this is essential for players who compete at the elite level.”
“We are excited about the opportunity to partner with Athletigen to discover more about how one’s individual genetics affects their response to training, nutrition and recovery strategies,” says Chris Ruf, Baylor’s Director of Athletic Performance. “This gives us an avenue as performance coaches to deliver nutrition, training and recovery programming that can be better personalized for each person, creating the opportunity to help develop a better and more injury resistant athlete.”
The Baylor football players will use the Athletigen platform to identify key genetic traits related to their athletics, nutrition and sport psychology. Once each player profile is created and analyzed, the coaching staff will gain insight into the individual needs of each athlete. This allows them to work with Baylor’s performance coaches to refine training, recovery and diet plans specific to those needs while keeping the entire unit performing at the highest possible level during this season and beyond.
“Using Athletigen’s technology, opportunities are created to improve performance, reduce the risk of injury, and make a lasting impact on health and well-being long after their athletic careers are over,” says Ruf. “Understanding the unique needs of each student-athlete helps us narrow the specific focus of our performance training. This will allow the student-athlete to maximise their ability to reap the benefits of all their hard work.”
The Athletigen platform will be used during the 2016 football season, with training camp starting in August.
