Orthopaedic Institute for Children Physician Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

LOS ANGELES--()--William Oppenheim, M.D., Cerebral Palsy Program Director at Orthopaedic Institute for Children (OIC), has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine (AACPDM). This prestigious award is bestowed annually upon a physician who, over the course of their career, has made creative contributions of outstanding significance to the field of medicine and for the benefit of patients with cerebral palsy and other childhood-onset disabilities.

For nearly half a century, Dr. Oppenheim has been dedicated to improving the care and treatment of children with cerebral palsy and other disorders. He shares his expertise as a frequent guest professor and speaker; has participated on numerous boards, committees and professional organizations; and has been named to a variety of “top doctors” lists. In addition to his position at OIC, Dr. Oppenheim is emeritus chief and Margaret Holden Jones Kanaar professor of Pediatric Orthopaedics at Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. In 2006 he served as president of the AACPDM.

A graduate of Georgetown University Medical School, Dr. Oppenheim completed his internship at San Francisco General Hospital and his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Washington in Seattle. He served as a Girdlestone Scholar at Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, England, and a fellow in pediatric orthopedics at Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital (now known as Orthopaedic Institute for Children).

The award was presented to Dr. Oppenheim at the AACPDM’s 70th annual meeting in Austin, Texas.
