LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Bomgar, a leader in secure access solutions, today announced it has acquired password management technology from Pitbull Software, expanding Bomgar’s portfolio of Privileged Access Management solutions. The acquired Pitbull KeyHolder solution is used by many companies to secure, manage, and administer passwords for privileged users. Bomgar is evolving the password management technology and integrating it with its platform of secure access solutions for a launch in the first half of 2016.
“This acquisition reaffirms Bomgar’s commitment to offering robust Privileged Access Management solutions that can help any company quickly address their most critical security gaps while increasing user productivity,” said Matt Dircks, CEO of Bomgar. “Sharing and misuse of privileged credentials is rampant across today’s businesses, creating an easy and attractive target for hackers. Unfortunately, many of today’s password management solutions are difficult to use and costly to implement. By enabling customers to seamlessly integrate password management and vaulting onto their privileged and remote access systems, we’re helping them to defend against attacks without hindering their business operations.”
According to Anmol Singh, principal research analyst and Felix Gaehtgens, research director at Gartner, “The golden rule is that shared-account passwords must not themselves be shared.” They add, “Thus, process and controls must ensure that the password for a shared account is known to only one approved person at any one time. This is much easier said than done, especially when shared-account password management (SAPM) tools are not used. The best practice is to use those tools in combination with privileged session management (PSM) tools to automatically establish a session with single sign-on to avoid having to reveal a shared account password in the first place. In those situations where a password must be revealed, it must be changed after use.”1
Bomgar’s Privileged Access Management solutions enable security professionals to control, monitor, and manage access to critical systems by privileged users. With Bomgar, organizations can provide administrators, vendors, and business users with the access capabilities they need to be more productive, while protecting high value infrastructure, assets, and applications from cyberattacks. The addition of native password management and vaulting capabilities with Bomgar’s current Privileged Session Management (PSM) solution eliminates the need for users to know or share passwords when accessing critical systems.
Bomgar is demonstrating its secure access solutions at booth 610 at the Gartner Identity & Access Management Summit in Las Vegas from December 7-9, 2015. For more information on Bomgar’s Privileged Access Management solutions, please visit: www.bomgar.com/access-management.
