ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The following statement is attributed to Gary Shapiro, CEO and president, Consumer Technology Association (CTA)TM - formerly the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® - regarding Clark County Commission’s decision to impose new costs and regulations on ridesharing platforms and drivers, which likely conflict with the recently approved bill that permits ridesharing throughout Nevada:
“We are disappointed that the Clark County Commission is making it difficult to access ridesharing services on the Las Vegas Strip and at McCarran Airport. A vibrant array of convenient transportation options is a key element of Las Vegas’ success as a world-class tourism destination. Given that Nevada law allows for ride-sharing services throughout the state, we urge the Clark County Commission to enable ridesharing services to operate effectively in Las Vegas. The people of Las Vegas and the city’s more than 40 million annual visitors deserve to have reasonable access to the transportation options that they use in other world class cities.”
The Consumer Technology Association owns and produces CES®, the largest annual event in the United States, bringing over 150,000 tradeshow attendees and more than $210 million of non-gaming revenue to the Nevada economy each year.
