SUNNYVALE, Calif. & NORTHVILLE, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mitsubishi Electric today announced that the company is integrating Movimento OTA technology into its next-generation head-unit architecture to provide customers with over-the-air (OTA) update capabilities. The new architecture, FLEXConnect®, helps to accelerate the delivery of infotainment services and is part of Mitsubishi Electric’s ongoing work with automakers to integrate advanced technologies into cars. Car owners can now look forward to a completely personalized entertainment system with continuous updates to the newest systems without ever having to return to the dealer. This combined technology breaks new ground in bringing software delivery from the cloud to the car in a very secure way and paves the way for a future with new applications and services being delivered in real time to vehicles.

Software-defined cars are a growing phenomenon with automakers increasingly spending much more of their budgets on software. According to the analyst firm IHS, remote OTA upgrades will save automakers $35 billion by 2022. Under this collaboration, the companies will help automakers optimize those technology investments by designing and engineering infotainment systems that we can call “software defined radio” - keeping crucial software-dependent systems up to date, virtually eliminating software recalls and associated warranty costs. While Mitsubishi and Movimento have collaborated previously, today’s announcement marks an important milestone in building infotainment solutions from the ground up with OTA capabilities.
