GTIS Partners Taps Team for U.S. Investment Expansion

Three Veteran Real Estate Investors to Focus on Commercial Acquisitions

NEW YORK--()--GTIS Partners LP (“GTIS”), a real estate private equity firm headquartered in New York City, with offices in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Atlanta, São Paulo, Paris and Munich, today announced that David Pahl and Barry Howell have joined the firm as Managing Directors and Thomas M. Baur has joined as Director. All three professionals were previously at Prudential Real Estate Investors, where they managed the firm’s U.S. Property Funds (USPF) series, among other funds.

Mr. Pahl will lead the commercial investment strategy in the U.S., an expansion of GTIS Partners’ existing North American focus. Mr. Pahl is supported by Mr. Howell, who is based with him in GTIS Partners’ Atlanta office, and by Mr. Baur, who is based in the firm’s Munich office. Mr. Pahl reports to Senior Managing Director and Head of U.S. Investments, Rob Vahradian.

“David’s involvement in more than $6 billion of institutional real estate transactions puts him at the upper echelon of this business when it comes to deal making,” said Rob Vahradian. “He and his team’s experience will continue to make GTIS Partners bigger and better as they lead this new and critical focus.”

“I’ve worked with David and his team on over $1 billion of transactions over the last 20 years and I hold their integrity, investment insight and expertise in the highest regard,” said Tom Shapiro, President and Chief Investment Officer of GTIS Partners. “We are very excited about the opportunities the team will bring to GTIS Partners.”

Mr. Pahl brings 25 years of real estate investment experience to his role at GTIS Partners. Prior to joining the firm, he was Managing Director with Prudential Real Estate Investors, with responsibility for the German funds’ North American investments. This included the $1.5 billion equity USPF series managed on behalf of German institutional investors, which Mr. Pahl helped create in 1994. During his tenure, he oversaw the origination and closing of more than 100 investment transactions in USPF. He began his career with TMW Real Estate Group in 1991.

“I greatly admire the portfolio GTIS Partners has built over the last decade and its ability to identify opportunity in growth markets ahead of its peers,” said David Pahl. “U.S. property continues to evolve with changing market cycles, but the asset potential remains strong for long-term investors.”

Mr. Howell brings 30 years of experience in commercial real estate investment, development, asset and property management and leasing. Prior to GTIS Partners, he worked with Mr. Pahl for 18 years overseeing the investments of the USPF series at Prudential Real Estate Investors and TMW Real Estate Group. His career began with JMB Realty Corporation and Prentiss Properties.

Mr. Baur has more than 15 years’ experience in commercial real estate investment and real estate fund administration. Prior to joining GTIS Partners, Mr. Baur worked for Pramerica Real Estate Investors as a Portfolio Manager for the USPF in partnership with Mr. Pahl and Mr. Howell. Prior to joining Pramerica in 2006, Mr. Baur worked for the Siemens Real Estate Investment Company.
