Physician Mobile ICD-10 Clinical Documentation Support

AHIMA and ImplementHIT’s Enhanced Mobile Training Solution To Benefit Clinicians Before and After Implementation Deadline

CHICAGO--()--Physicians across the country are at different stages with respect to their ICD-10 training. One constant for most physicians after the October 1 ICD-10 implementation deadline will be the need for continued support and training as they transition to the new and more robust coding system. Clinicians will be looking for ways to fine-tune documentation, and build efficient resources and support for their most relevant diagnoses.

To meet this need during this critical time period, the American Health Information Management Association, in partnership with ImplementHIT, has expanded its intelligent mobile app platform, Clinical Documentation for ICD-10 by Specialty: Principles and Practice, to include enhanced mobile capabilities.

“Throughout the entire transition to ICD-10, AHIMA has offered expertise, services and products to help all healthcare stakeholders prepare,” said AHIMA CEO Lynne Thomas Gordon, MBA, RHIA, CAE, FACHE, FAHIMA. “This commitment will not dissipate on October 1. This targeted and easy to navigate training solution is one of many ways AHIMA will continue to support the ICD-10 transition so that the many benefits of the new coding system can be realized.”

Unlike traditional mobile apps, AHIMA’s training and support app include enterprise management tools with the ability to target and monitor training and support at the individual physician level. Machine learning and healthcare specific algorithms were built into the application to deliver the most impactful information to a physician, in “bite-sized” chunks, eliminating any unnecessary search time.

App benefits include:

  • Clinical documentation training and resources for CM, PCS and EM Coding
  • Find a Code—find complete ICD-10 Codes for all diagnoses and conditions
  • ICD-10 codes can be saved to a personal Superbill for continued reference
  • Optional voice queries and text to speech to accommodate all work scenarios
  • Personal Favorite List
  • Suggested Learning through intelligent app functionality
  • Post go-live resource — designed for continued support
  • Up to 20 AMA Category 1 CME credits (Point of Care)

Past training experience led to this new direction in mobile learning. An ImplementHIT survey in 2012 found that more than 80 percent of doctors learned more about operating their electronic health record (EHR) in the first year after the system was implemented, as opposed to before.

“Training and support starting October 2nd and beyond, is just as, if not more important than all the training taking place beforehand” said Andres Jimenez, M.D., CEO of ImplementHIT. “Our curriculum and technology specifically support this important phase with every detail of this overall solution designed exclusively with the time-pressed physician top of mind.”

With the Advanced Mobile app doctors are able to access an additional Evaluation and Management Coding library, and receive targeted notifications that are tied to corresponding training snippets called mobile solutions. Organizations can quickly build and distribute their own custom content on any topic, such as EHR advice related to ICD-10, EHR optimization best practices and much more.

Throughout the years, AHIMA has been a leading advocate for the move to ICD-10. Many of AHIMA’s resources for ICD-10 can be found at AHIMA.org/ICD-10.
