SPOKANE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ecova, the total energy and sustainability management company, has been selected by Caesars Entertainment to help the company reach their CodeGreen goal of reducing waste generation by 50 percent by 2020. As a leader in environmental sustainability in the gaming entertainment industry, Caesars, who operates under the Caesars®, Harrah’s® and Horseshoe® brand names, demonstrates their commitment to sustainability by reducing waste, reporting their GHG emissions to Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) with the help of Ecova, a CDP accredited provider, and by leveraging the Ecova Energy and Sustainability Management Platform to gather additional insight to optimize its energy management strategy at the company’s affiliated locations in the U.S.
According to findings from Ecova’s 2015 Energy and Sustainability Predictions survey, waste ranks as the third biggest area of opportunity for savings and improvement. Prior to deploying the Ecova Platform, Caesars had made considerable strides in reducing landfilled waste, including increasing annual waste diversion by 10 percent in both 2013 and 2014. However, the results of a recent audit of waste and waste practices at a Las Vegas area resort revealed opportunity for improvement.
Caesars’ efforts to divert waste away from landfills yielded positive results due to multiple initiatives at all properties. Overall, the total waste diversion in 2014 was 44 percent. In order to reach their enterprise goal of 50 percent of waste diversion by 2020, Caesars reached out to Ecova to understand their waste streams, optimize their waste strategy, and ultimately support a zero waste initiative.
“Caesars Entertainment properties are unique in that we have casino space, hotel rooms, restaurants, shopping outlets and event arenas, all under one roof,” said Jeffrey Ruskowitz, manager of engineering and sustainable operations at Caesars Entertainment. “Our facilities require a partner that is proficient in understanding the challenges faced by all these business types – but rolled into one. Ecova has the breadth and depth of experience to partner with in order to help us be successful in our waste diversion initiatives.”
Ecova will provide Caesars with a total waste solution, which includes:
- Waste Bill Processing and Analysis
- Waste Service Management
- Waste Procurement
- Waste Optimization
- Zero Waste
To complement the services above, Caesars will utilize the Waste Manager Module on the Ecova Platform to inform sourcing and optimization strategy and support zero waste initiatives with comprehensive cost, service detail and contract insights. Through the Ecova platform, Caesars will have an all-in-one solution that removes the need to have separate applications or databases for energy, water, and waste data―improving data quality and ease of management.
“Today’s businesses are increasingly seeking a robust, cost-effective way to track, analyze and report on key waste metrics across their portfolio,” said Bob Zak, senior vice president, facility solutions, at Ecova. “The Waste Manager module offers enhanced reporting and targets specific client needs in an easy-to-navigate environment. We’re excited to provide Caesars with a view to waste generation trends in the same platform that they access similar metrics for energy and water, making it easier than ever for them to meet their environmental and financial goals.”
The Ecova Platform combines data, technology and energy expertise to deliver insight needed to reduce organizational cost and consumption. For more information on the Ecova Platform, including features and benefits, please visit www.ecova.com/platform.
