HANOVER, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Year in and year out, thousands of car drivers get an ice cold surprise. The temperatures were still mild yesterday, but it got suddenly frosty overnight, ice or even a few flakes of snow transform the roads very suddenly into ice rinks. If you don’t want to be caught unawares by the cold time of year, you should prepare in advance – by fitting winter tyres. These winter specialists provide good grip on the road even in difficult winter road conditions. "Already at outside temperatures of less than seven degrees Celsius, winter tyres provide more grip than summer tyres. Drivers should therefore change in good time", Thierry Delesalle from the largest online tyre specialist suggests.
Your winter tyres should be thoroughly inspected before fitting. Drivers can either do that themselves, or ask a workshop to do that. If the tyres appear to be porous, if they have cracks or other visible damage, they should be definitely replaced – and also if they are already worn. "Winter tyres can only provide full performance for driving safety if they have sufficient tread depth. At least 4 millimetres is the safety expert’s recommendation", continues Thierry Delesalle. If your own tyres are getting near to this limit, you should change them before using them in winter.
Although not all Traffic Regulations in the Scandinavian countries uniformly stipulate that you must have winter tyres at all times, your own and your family’s safety should be worth fitting them.
Which winter tyre is the right one for my car? Many drivers ask themselves this question at the beginning of the cold season. How good is the grip of the different models on wintery roads, how loud, how convenient are they? You can get answers to these and many other questions from independent reports and reviews other drivers made, which appear for example on tyretest.com. Arranged according to manufacturer, you can get a quick overview and can also put your own experiences online in the form of a test report. At the Scandinavian online shops you can buy all the brands (amongst Nokian) and makes for Nordic conditions: regular winter tyres, Nordic compounds and spiked tyres.
