SCHAUMBURG, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Career Education Corporation (NASDAQ: CECO) today announced that it has closed on an agreement transferring control of Missouri College, one of its Career College institutions, to Weston Education Group, an education operator providing career training for over 34 years with four distance education schools as well as Heritage College and Heritage Institute. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Missouri College, located in Brentwood, Missouri, has been providing career focused education to students since 1963, and has been part of Career Education Corporation for 13 years. Weston Education Group anticipates there will be no change to the name of the institution, and current students and alumni should expect few to no changes in their college experience or student services.
“We are pleased to have reached a mutually beneficial agreement with a new owner that intends to invest in strengthening Missouri College’s programs and protecting the long-term interests of its students and faculty members,” said Todd Nelson, President and CEO of Career Education Corporation. “Weston has extensive experience in the career training field operating successful institutions focused on allied health education, both online and on campus.”
This sale represents the continued progress against Career Education’s strategy to exit its career schools business and focus its resources and attention on its universities – Colorado Technical University (CTU) and American InterContinental University (AIU) – where the company has significant opportunities to continue to provide quality higher education to the adult student market. The sale of Missouri College represents Career Education’s second successful divestiture after the sale of Brooks Institute in California earlier this year.
“No matter the ownership, the faculty and staff of Missouri College remain committed to helping students achieve the education they desire to enter into a new career field or enhance an existing career,” said Karl Petersen, Campus President of Missouri College.
“Weston Education Group is proud to carry on the strong tradition of Missouri College. The culture of Missouri College, combined with the educational programs they offer, is a natural fit with the Weston school group. We are strongly committed to the continued success of the students and graduates of Missouri College,” remarked Eric Chiusolo, Chief Executive Officer of Weston Education Group.
