RALEIGH, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--i360Gov, a network of media properties providing news and analysis regarding government business, policy and technology strategy and initiatives, today released new results from a survey of federal government executives about application program management. The resulting report, “Application Portfolio Management Survey Underscores Need for Greater Awareness,” highlights how little some federal agencies know about the applications in their systems.
The report, part of i360Gov’s Proof Points series of technology government surveys, uncovers some surprising results:
- Of the 112 people surveyed, only 14 said their organization had completed a comprehensive analysis of their application portfolio.
- Respondents exhibited a general lack of knowledge about their applications. They averaged a 1.8 level of confidence (on a scale of 1 to 5) about their understanding of how much applications cost per minute for downtime.
- 87 of 112 respondents were unsure which legacy applications should be retired.
- Despite this general lack of knowledge, 94 respondents expressed confidence that their applications did not conflict with agency mission goals.
The survey, conducted in May 2015, included 112 federal government respondents. 70% were from the civilian agencies, 21% were from military departments, and 10% were from intelligence agencies.
