Hot-Swap USB Loads with 0.2A Power Switch from Diodes Incorporated

PLANO, Texas--()--Diodes Incorporated (Nasdaq: DIOD), a leading global manufacturer and supplier of high-quality application specific standard products within the broad discrete, logic and analog semiconductor markets, today introduced the AP21410/AP21510. These single-channel current limited power switches are optimized for USBs and other hot-swap applications and meet design requirements for laptop computers, tablets and Chromebooks™, especially those deploying the new Type-C USB port.

This family of power switches incorporates 0.4A current limiting, while operating from a 2.7V to 5.5V supply with a maximum continuous load current rating of 0.2A. Other protection features, such as 0.4ms controlled rise and fall times, support hot-swap connections between computing, communication and consumer electronics equipment and peripherals. In addition, under-voltage lockout (UVLO) and reverse-current blocking protect the input power supply while thermal protection prevents damage to the IC under heavy-overload or short-circuit fault conditions.

In full compliance with USB 2.0 and available with both polarities of enable input, the AP21410 (active-low) and AP21510 (active-high) switches also benefit from a 95mΩ on-resistance and a very low 1μA shutdown current that contribute to reduced power consumption and extended battery life. Both versions of this power switch are supplied in a compact 6-pin U-DFN2018 package. Further information is available at www.diodes.com.
