NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Suneris, a Brooklyn-based biotech company, will introduce VETIGEL™ today during a product launch event in Brooklyn. VETIGEL, a fast-acting plant-based gel that stops severe bleeding in less than 12 seconds, is expected to improve hemostasis by achieving in seconds what the current standard of care takes two to three minutes to accomplish.
“What VETIGEL delivers in terms of time savings and convenience makes a huge – perhaps even life-or-death – difference for veterinarians and pets in the fight against blood loss,” said CEO Joe Landolina. “We believe VETIGEL will change the way veterinarians achieve hemostasis.”
VETIGEL works by taking on the properties of the tissue with which it comes in contact, thus solidifying to stop the flow of blood from the wound. The clot formed by VETIGEL is strong enough to withstand the removal of excess gel, and due to its biocompatible nature, excess product can be left in the body to absorb.
VETIGEL will be available in U.S. and U.K. veterinary markets later this summer and is expected to transform standards for performing both routine treatments and complex operations in veterinary clinics. As an everyday veterinary tool, VETIGEL will enable veterinarians to act quickly during procedures such as biopsies, dental extractions and other emergency and critical care procedures.
“Every second counts when treating animals in critical condition,” said Dr. Ken Sadanaga, a leading soft tissue surgeon out of the VRC in Pennsylvania. “Having a tool like VETIGEL better equips veterinarians to do what we do best – treat and save the lives of animals.”
At the launch event, veterinarians, representatives from the biotech industry, local businesses and government officials will hear Landolina address the company’s plans for VETIGEL. While VETIGEL is intended only for the veterinary market, the company is working to attain FDA approval for the technology for human-use potential, including military, emergency medicine, and human surgical use.
“Our goal is for our gel technology to one day be in the tool kit of every first responder, military personnel and medical professional,” Landolina said.
