NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Vinho Verde wines were in high demand in 2014 with 4.6 million liters exported to the U.S., up from 4.4 million in 2013*. Over the period from 2010 to 2014, exports to the U.S. have increased 19% in volume making the U.S. Vinho Verde’s #1 export market. This growth can be attributed to the region’s continued focus on improving both the quality of their wines at home, as well as their perception overseas. Today’s Vinho Verde is a more refined, modern and sophisticated version of its traditional archetype.
As the U.S. remains a top priority for the region, the Commissão de Viticultura da Região Vinhos Verdes (CVRVV) will continue their marketing push with another 3-year campaign with Benson Marketing Group. “Now that we have established a strong foundation in the U.S., we are committed to supporting our producers in the marketplace and strengthening the relationship we’ve built with consumers,” said Carla Cunha, Marketing Director of the Commissão de Viticultura da Região Vinhos Verdes (CVRVV). The campaign will take a multi‐layered approach combining public relations, digital media, trade promotion, and consumer events – all emphasizing education on Vinho Verde wines and the region and encouraging further importation and sales.
The research and testing conducted at the Amândio Galhano Wine Center (EVAG) has played a key role in this “modernization” of the region’s vine cultivation and winemaking. Established in 1984, the experimental vineyard and winery covers an area of 66 hectares located along the Lima River. The center provides support for various viticulture studies, as well as oenological research in partnership with other local and international teaching and research institutions.
