Allianz Life Donates Food, Clothing, and Cash to Local Charities

For the second year in a row, Allianz Life’s Spirit of Summer Giving Campaign helped two non-profit organizations, PRISM and Second Harvest Heartland

MINNEAPOLIS--()--Building on the success of last year’s program, Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America (Allianz Life®) employees donated food, clothing, and money in a week-long community service project known as the “Spirit of Summer Giving” campaign. People Responding in Social Ministry (PRISM), a community-funded social service agency that aids local families in need, will receive nearly 8,000 pounds of food and clothing as a result of employees’ efforts. Second Harvest Heartland, the Upper Midwest’s largest hunger relief organization, will receive more than $30,000 in employee donations.

“Our employees never cease to amaze me. I’m proud of their engagement in this summer’s giving campaign and happy that we can contribute to two important organizations in our community. While this is just one of many charitable events we conduct, this campaign gets at the heart of who we are,” said Walter White, Allianz Life president and CEO. “We met our Spirit of Summer Giving targets and I am looking forward to an even bigger response when we conduct a similar campaign at the end of the year.”

Allianz Life provides several unique ways to raise money for Second Harvest Heartland. The company offers “casual for a cause,” an opportunity for employees to donate cash and get the benefit of dressing in casual attire for the month of June. Also, Allianz Life conducts an annual employee 5k run/walk where 100% of the registration fees go to the charity.

“One person in 10 experiences hunger in Minnesota and western Wisconsin. In particular, many families experience greater hunger in the summer because children do not receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch at school,” said Second Harvest Heartland Corporate Engagement Manager Heather Olson. “We appreciate the donations from Allianz Life at a time of year when children are at greater risk of missing a meal.”

Allianz Life has sponsored an annual Spirit of Giving Campaign since 2000. Over the years Allianz Life employees have donated more than 250,000 pounds of food, 250,000 pounds of clothing, and nearly $500,000 in cash donations, showing a strong ongoing commitment to the local community.
