SubPac Partners with Universal Pictures to Bring Jurassic World to Life

“Jurassic World: Apatosaurus” merges virtual reality and SubPac’s tactile audio technology to produce the highest quality, most immersive transmedia experience available

LOS ANGELES--()--Following last week’s release of Jurassic World, SubPac, a fully immersive audio technology, today announced its partnership with Universal Pictures to bring fans of the blockbuster film directly into the world of the dinosaurs through virtual reality. Also featuring a collaboration with Headspace Studio, this combination of the most advanced tactile audio system, mixed with immersive 3D 360° soundscapes for virtual reality content, has resulted in a completely interactive and immersive experience unlike any seen or felt before.

“Universal is excited to release the virtual reality companion experience to Jurassic World in the Oculus store,” said Cameron Curtis, Director of Digital Marketing. “The addition of SubPac allows viewers to further immerse themselves in what it would feel like to be face-to-face with a living dinosaur.”

Titled “Jurassic World: Apatosaurus,” the partnership presents a dynamic VR interactive that can be experienced in a stimulating new way with SubPac’s technology and Samsung’s Gear VR. Led by Headspace Studio—and produced and directed by Montreal-based Felix & Paul Studios—“Jurassic World: Apatosaurus” was engineered with the SubPac in mind as its technology transfers high-fidelity low frequencies directly to the user’s body to create a completely engaging and robust transmedia piece.

Jurassic World is such a beloved franchise, and with ‘Jurassic World: Apatosaurus’ we’re completely changing the way people interact with media,” said John Alexiou, SubPac’s CEO. “People crave immersion, and this experience invites them into an unfamiliar—yet recognizable—world where their senses are heightened by the incredible visual environment and visceral sounds as reproduced by the SubPac.”

A two and a-half minute slice, the “Jurassic World: Apatosaurus” was shot in Muir Woods (California), providing viewers a completely authentic panoramic view of the environment. Surrounded by tall trees, users are met with the roaring footsteps—completely intensified in VR by SubPac’s tactile bass—of the extinct dinosaur Apatosaurus. The interaction soon becomes an up-close-and-personal affair as the Apatosaurus comes face-to-face with users.

“The SubPac adds a whole new level of depth and physical presence to the Apatosaurus and overall VR immersion,” said Jean-Pascal Beaudoin, Director of Sound at Headspace Studio. “We are thrilled to be part of this breakout collaboration with SubPac and look forward to future partnerships.”

Samsung Gear VR owners can now download “Jurassic World: Apatosaurus” directly from the Oculus Store (Experiences tab). Fans and moviegoers will be able to interact with the experiential pop-up installation starting today through June 25 at the following locations:
