PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ravello Systems, the industry-leader in nested virtualization, today announced a free lab service for North American Red Hat Certified Engineers and Red Hat Certified Architects (RHCA), with 1,000 free CPU hours per month, for running their data center labs on Amazon Web Services or Google Cloud using Ravello. In addition, Ravello Repo provides a place where the community can share blueprints to accelerate the pace of innovation and hands-on learning in infrastructure.
Ravello is a virtual overlay cloud service with software defined networking. It runs existing KVM and VMware workloads with complex networking completely unmodified in public clouds such as AWS and Google Cloud.
“As the leader in the Open Source community, Red Hat is pleased to work with Ravello and offer this free service to Red Hat Certified Professionals. Open source innovation is increasing at a breakneck pace. The Ravello free lab service will accelerate learning, increase adoption of open source technology and will foster more collaboration in the community,” said Randy Russell, Red Hat director of certification.
“We strongly believe in the power of collaboration. Our free service empowers experts in the Red Hat community with free access to infrastructure to learn, experiment and share. We are equally excited about the Repo, a repository where everyone can collaborate and share infrastructure, in the form of blueprints,” said Navin Thadani, SVP of products at Ravello Systems.
Ravello’s Smart Labs are self-contained capsules that can run unmodified VMware and KVM virtual machines and appliances, in a fully fenced environment, with complete layer 2 access in the public cloud. In addition, Ravello has a blueprinting mechanism that allows entire multi-node labs to be saved as snapshots and rapidly re-deployed. Blueprints can be shared within teams and across communities. Recently, Ravello added new capabilities that allow entire hypervisor labs with multiple ESXi or KVM nodes to run on AWS and Google, creating a unique enabler for infrastructure labs.
Since being founded in 2011, Ravello has seen widespread adoption in the virtualization community and is already serving as the leading choice for labs with complex environments such as multi-node OpenStack deployments with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, KVM, RHEV, CloudForms, Puppet manifest testing, Linux security testing, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 to 7 upgrade test labs.
