GARDENA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Carroll Shelby Foundation will sell the world’s only official “Need for Speed” Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake through an auction from May 16-26, 2015. Proceeds from the sale of the charity’s Wimbledon White Shelby at www.ebay.com/needforspeedshelby, which was built to launch the latest version of the game, will help provide medical assistance for those in need including children, support educational opportunities for young people through automotive and other training programs and also benefit the Shelby Automotive Museum.
“This is a rare car with a very unique story,” said Neil Cummings, co-CEO of Shelby International, Inc., CEO of Carroll Shelby Licensing and Carroll Shelby Foundation board member. “The Carroll Shelby Foundation teamed up with Electronic Arts to create a ‘one-off’ 2011 'Need for Speed' Edition Shelby GT500 Super Snake. It was featured both on the cover and inside EA’s 'Need for Speed' The Run. This special real-life version was built by Shelby American with custom EA design and true Shelby performance. The winning bidder of this online charity sale will have the opportunity to literally drive the car in the video game and then go out on the streets in the actual car.”
The provenance of the car is equally intriguing. After the car was launched to great fanfare, it toured various events in the United States to promote the game and Shelby relationship; only 2,000 miles were accumulated on the car. It was featured in magazines and was slotted next to Carroll Shelby’s personal cars when he granted private tours of his collection in Southern California.
“This particular Shelby became a ‘rock star’ when audio manufacturer JVC asked to make it a rolling exhibit for their latest mobile music system,” said Joe Conway, co-CEO of Carroll Shelby International, CEO of Shelby American and Carroll Shelby Foundation board member. “They installed a custom stereo system, which was played whenever the Foundation exhibited the car. All of the car’s history will be documented in the official Shelby Registry.”
While the standard Shelby GT500 Super Snake is already a world-class muscle car, this particular vehicle is even more impressive. The 2011 “Need for Speed” Edition Shelby Super Snake features:
- Wimbledon White paint scheme with custom Charcoal Stripes
- Authentic Shelby Super Snake package
