NEW LONDON, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--An unprecedented collaboration has formed spanning decades and impervious to party lines. The Secretary’s Circle Advisory Board will support the National Coast Guard Museum Association in its fundraising efforts to build the first National Coast Guard Museum in New London, Connecticut.
The Honorable James M. Loy, former Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security 2003 – 2005 and member of the board of directors of the National Coast Guard Museum Association, is the driving force behind the Secretary’s Circle. He said, “Preserving the history of the U.S. Coast Guard must be done. I know firsthand that every Cabinet member that has overseen the Coast Guard shares my sentiments and was delighted to sign on to be a part of this elite circle.”
The Secretary’s Circle is hosting the group’s first event April 29 at the Army and Navy Club in Washington, D.C. This invitation-only gathering is the National launch of the National Coast Guard Museum Association’s campaign to raise $100 million to build the National Coast Guard Museum. This is the Circle’s first public event supporting the Museum campaign. The event will be hosted by The Honorable Rodney Slater representing the Circle’s co-chairs, the Honorable Norman Mineta and the Honorable Thomas J. Ridge.
Secretary Mineta was the first to join the Secretary’s Circle. He shared, “I was humbled to be part of history as the U.S. Coast Guard transferred from the Department of Transportation to the Department of Homeland Security. Being the Secretary of the Coast Guard is a privilege you don’t forget – it is our duty to make sure that the Coast Guard’s rich history is made available to the citizens of America.”

About the National Coast Guard Museum
The National Coast Guard Museum will honor the heroism of those who answered the call to always be ready: Semper Paratus. Permanent and revolving exhibits will tell compelling stories of the past, the present and the future as they evoke the Coast Guard’s critical role and mission in maritime security, safety, protection of natural resources, and national defense. The museum will use interactive and modern technology to engage the public, veterans and the present Coast Guard as they serve our nation now and into the future.
