EMERYVILLE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--RelayHealth announced today that DirectTrust, a non-profit healthcare industry alliance that advances secure and trusted heath information exchange by the Direct Protocol, has awarded RelayHealth’s Direct Messaging solution full accreditation in the DirectTrust Accredited Trust Anchor Bundle.
RelayHealth® Direct Messaging enables the exchange of messages and attachments pertaining to health information between health information service providers (HISPs), certificate authorities and registered authorities. Though similar to email, Direct Messaging is reinforced with an added layer of security and trust-in-identity, helping to ensure HIPAA compliance.
The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT encourages HISPs to become accredited by DirectTrust and to add their anchor certificates to DirectTrust’s trust bundle. Doing so enables providers using such services to exchange information securely across vendor and organizational boundaries, and supports the goals of meaningful use Stage 2. The accreditation also obviates the need for complex one-off negotiations between relying parties over privacy, security and trust-in-identity, and allows implementation to be achieved at scale.
“Inclusion in the Accredited Trust Anchor Bundle signifies that RelayHealth Direct Messaging meets the ‘gold standard’ for best practices established by DirectTrust’s policies and assessed and audited by the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission,” said David C. Kibbe, M.D., DirectTrust president and CEO. “The rigorous review process includes proof of interoperability while care is taken to assure the validity and integrity of the trust anchors and the end-entity certificates involved to avoid downstream errors or security problems.”
By achieving full accreditation, RelayHealth joins an elite group of HISPs advancing the Direct exchange capacity of the healthcare industry.
“RelayHealth is proud to have met the exacting standards of the DirectTrust community,” said Arien Malec, vice president, Data Platform and Acquisition Tools, RelayHealth. “We are committed to providing our customers with health information exchange products that are best practice in terms of trust and security, and that facilitate their ability to achieve better health for their patients and communities.”
