Accela Toasts Growth of Civic Technology in New York City on the Heels of Landmark $143 Million Investment

Gathering of Influencers Celebrate Accela Customer, City of New York, Support of BetaNYC and Opening of Local Office

NEW YORK--()--Accela, the leading provider of cloud-based civic engagement solutions for government, is gathering influencers tonight at the historic Fraunces Tavern to celebrate the civic technology boom in New York City. The event builds on momentum from the Company’s recently announced landmark $143 million investment, the largest funding in the government technology space in recent history.

During the event, Accela will outline recent projects with the City of New York announced earlier today, its new corporate support for the BetaNYC community, and the opening of its new Manhattan office to support these endeavors.

“New York is a hub for civic technology, with one of the most comprehensive open data policies and the newly launched Civic Hall community center for civic innovators. We’re thrilled Accela’s cloud-based capabilities will contribute to continuing the City’s mission of leveraging technology to better serve its residents,” said Maury Blackman, Accela President and CEO. “As the famed NY song goes, by making it here, we are confident the Accela Civic Platform can make it anywhere.”

Representing New York City’s leading role in the open government and civic technology movement, the Accela reception will feature comments on the critical role of technology in government today from Accela’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Rob Cassetti. Cassetti will outline the Company’s software implementation with the City of New York, which spans the Departments of Consumer Affairs, Buildings, Small Business Services, and Health and Mental Hygiene. Accela Developer Evangelist and former Philadelphia Chief Data Officer, Mark Headd, will address the value of open data to government and the creation of open data standards, as well as the Company’s support for BetaNYC, an organizing force for civic engagement in the Big Apple. The BetaNYC initiative furthers the company’s advocacy of civic technologies that are estimated to generate $6.5 billion in spending in 2015.

The gathering will emphasize Accela’s leading market position with government agencies of all sizes around the world. Adoption of the Civic Platform is growing steadily, transforming how governments interact with citizens and businesses by deploying cloud technology to modernize civic processes. Continuing to advance its technologies, expand the capabilities of its platform and support civic application development will empower Accela to capitalize on the $30 billion local and regional governments in the U.S. spend annually on software.
