COLUMBUS, Ohio--()--NetJets Aviation, a Berkshire Hathaway company and the worldwide leader in private aviation, announced today that it has signed a five-year agreement with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to implement NextGen projects that will lead to safer, more efficient air transportation.

“With more than 400 aircraft in its U.S. fleet and an unmatched record for safety, NetJets Aviation is an obvious choice for the FAA to partner with in implementing NextGen technologies,” said NetJets Global Chief Operating Officer and President of NetJets Aviation Bill Noe. “This agreement builds on the previous agreement that we signed in 2008 during the testing phase of NextGen work. Now we begin to optimize the prior work and begin the implementation stage of these new technologies.”

NextGen is an endeavor designed to shift navigation, surveillance and communication from analog to digital and satellite-based technologies. The technologies used will provide greater precision and flexibility, which reduces travel time and improves the environmental performance of aircraft – less fuel burn, noise and exhaust emissions. NextGen also gives aviation operators higher schedule predictability and increases capacity.

“Our initial project will be analyzing NextGen data collected over the past several years,” Noe added. “We have enlisted The Ohio State University, an education leader in aviation research and technology development, to support this effort.”

NetJets has a long standing partnership with Ohio State, supporting research and educational efforts through The Ohio State University Center for Aviation Studies.
