Saks Fifth Avenue to Open First Store in San Juan

The luxury retailer makes its Puerto Rico debut, bringing an elevated assortment of designer merchandise, a 10022-SHOE salon, a Sophie’s fine dining restaurant, and more to the Mall of San Juan.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico--()--Saks Fifth Avenue is delighted to reveal exciting details about the opening of the first Saks Fifth Avenue store in Puerto Rico. The 100,000 square foot, multi-level store opens in conjunction with the Mall of San Juan on March 26, 2015.

“There is great opportunity in San Juan – the demand for luxury retail from locals and tourists is thriving,” commented Marigay McKee, President of Saks Fifth Avenue. “Our new store solidifies another milestone for Saks Fifth Avenue, and we are excited to embrace Puerto Rico as a new frontier for our brand and extend our legendary shopping experience to the area.”

Conveniently located near the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport and several luxury hotels, the new Saks Fifth Avenue location will offer visitors and residents an unparalleled assortment of luxury brands, such as Stella McCartney, Diane von Furstenberg, Dolce & Gabbana, Roberto Cavalli, Alexander McQueen, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Etro, Oscar de la Renta, and many others.

Saks Fifth Avenue San Juan will introduce the market to the famous 10022-SHOE, Puerto Rico’s most well-heeled ZIP code. The space will provide an extensive shoe selection, offering luxury brands such as Valentino, Christian Louboutin, Salvatore Ferragamo, Manolo Blahnik, Saint Laurent, Giuseppe Zanotti, Chloé and many more.

The location will feature a vast collection of designer menswear, a grand designer handbag selection, and numerous beauty and cosmetics offerings. The store will also house a full-service Fifth Avenue Club for personal shopping and a Sophie’s restaurant, the first fine dining experience offered inside a luxury retail store in San Juan.

Created by the Saks Fifth Avenue design team in partnership with design firm Jensen and Goldstein, the new property will feature breathtaking architectural detail and elements of surprise. The hallmarks are an eclectic mix of furniture, decorative lighting and accessories, as well as innovative materials and finishes. Enticing exterior features will include an oversized canopied valet area, a reflecting pool water installation, and a custom brise-soleil screen. The interior will showcase hand-blown glass chandeliers, and custom full-height transition screens and mirrors made of luxurious metals and specialty glass.

To celebrate the launch of the store, Saks Fifth Avenue San Juan will host a series of events throughout opening week. Saks will partner with the Puerto Rico Museum of Contemporary Art to kickoff the week with a large scale cocktail party on Monday, March 23. Constituents of the organization are invited to shop the store, and enjoy cocktails and canapés in a lively atmosphere of musical ensembles and one-of-a-kind art installations created exclusively for the opening.

On Thursday, March 26, Marigay McKee, President of Saks Fifth Avenue, and iconic designer Diane von Furstenberg will formally reveal the new store to the public with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9 AM. Immediately following the ceremony, Ms. von Furstenberg will join Marigay McKee for a meet and greet in store.
