AkzoNobel Functional Chemicals Selects Arkieva Software for Demand Planning and Inventory Analysis

Arkieva Implementation Will Take Place Simultaneously Across Seven Business Units with Global Operations

WILMINGTON, Del.--()--Arkieva (www.arkieva.com) the designer and supplier of the Arkieva suite of advanced planning and scheduling (APS) software products, announced today that AkzoNobel Functional Chemicals has selected the Arkieva Demand Planning and Inventory Analyzer modules for its worldwide supply chain operations.

Functional Chemicals is the largest business in the AkzoNobel family of Specialty Chemicals. The Functional Chemicals business produces chemical intermediates, performance chemicals and end-user consumer products. The Company’s portfolio includes cellulosic specialties, chelates, ethylene amines, metal alkyls, micronutrients, organic peroxides, polysulfides, redispersable powder polymers, salt specialties and sulfur products. Based on market share AkzoNobel is a global leader in many of these products.

Functional Chemicals is organized in seven sub business units. “Our business units were using a variety of solutions to manage demand planning and inventory optimization,” said Kees Schmalz, global business director paint and project champion at AkzoNobel Performance Additives. “These solutions included both software and spreadsheets. Part of what we wanted to do was to harmonize our supply chain planning and bring everyone into a single system for planning and reporting.”

The size of the supply chain challenge in these seven business units can be calculated by the thousands of SKUs managed by these business units for thousands of customers. The Functional Chemical business has more than 100 people who will be users of the Arkieva planning and inventory software solution.

“We have had a long and mutually beneficial relationship with the Surface Chemistry part of AkzoNobel,” said Sujit Singh, chief operating officer of Arkieva. “We are excited to be moving into the largest operating unit of Specialty Chemicals. I think it is a validation of both our level of customer service and the reliability of our software.”
