Nearly 70 USMD Clinics and 261 Providers Recognized for Improving Care through Comprehensive Preventive and Care Management Strategies

Texas Physician Practice Quality Improvement Award honors physician practices using technology to provide exceptional preventive healthcare

IRVING, Texas--()--USMD Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: USMD), a physician-led integrated healthcare system, announced today that nearly 70 of its primary care and specialty clinics, comprising 261 physicians and associate practitioners, are recipients of the 2013-2014 Texas Physician Practice Quality Improvement Award, sponsored by the Texas Medical Foundation in partnership with the Texas Medical Association and Texas Osteopathic Medical Association.

This prestigious award recognizes Texas practices and physicians for the innovative and effective use of health information technology to improve patient care and promote reliable preventive health services.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services recently prioritized the use of health information technologies in hospitals and clinics. By using improved technologies and data, caregivers can make more informed decisions that improve the quality of care delivered.

“USMD is honored that 261 of our physicians and associate practitioners, including primary care providers and specialists, received the Texas Physician Practice Quality Improvement Award,” said John House, M.D., chairman and chief executive officer of USMD Holdings. “Delivering top-quality, effective care is our number one priority at USMD. This award confirms USMD’s dedication and commitment to our patients and the type of care we provide.”

To receive this award, providers were required to demonstrate how they provided exemplary care and used health information technology in the 2013 calendar year. Any physician practice in the state of Texas with one or more Texas-licensed physicians providing care for Medicare fee-for-service patients were eligible to receive the award.

TMF Health Quality Institute, Texas Medical Association and Texas Osteopathic Medical Association developed the award in 2012 to recognize outstanding physician practices based on four components: top performance on nationally recognized clinical outcome measures, regular use of population care management methods (such as patient education, early detection and disease management), participation in data reporting quality initiatives, and implementation of tools and processes to promote patient engagement and improve the patient’s experience.

The continued improvement in healthcare quality relies on the use of healthcare technologies to reevaluate clinical practices and a willingness to institute necessary changes. Health information technologies inform physicians of patterns in patient procedures and outcomes they may not have recognized through electronic health records. They also allow physicians to see feedback on their level of care through transparent reporting systems.
